Despite its title, Going to School in Colorado is actually set in Oklahoma, "in a medium-sized town just large enough to have a mall." (i.e. Bartlesville). Local boy SPENCER has just returned from an ill-fated attempt to go to college at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He had grandiose plans to attend school there, but things didn't work out and he returns home after only a few weeks. He goes to visit his friend PATRICK, who works at the records store in the mall. They discuss what happened in order to come to some conclusion and realization about where their lives are going.
