Hallowe'en is supposed to
fall on a cool, crisp Saturday (or at least a Friday), with a full moon.
This year Hallowe'en decided to fall on a Thursday half-way between the New
Moon and the First Quarter. When Hallowe'en has the temerity to fall on a
Thursday, which is the "official" Hallowe'en weekend? The weekend
before seems so long before, and the weekend after, well, it's
after, y'know? So we decided the best time to celebrate Hallowe'en is the
weekend before, the weekend after, and the week in between.

The official us75.com/
policy on the value of Hallowe'en: FEAR NOT! That which is "scary," the
boogieman and the haunting, are just the jack o'lanterns, bedsheets with
eyeholes, and ugly rubber masks we make up in our own heads because we lack
faith. Light and laughter shine away all fear of the dark and our anxiety about
inevitable evils. Hallowe'en is as scary as
Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds."
Celebrate Hallowe'en as the conquest of faith over fear.
BOO! See? You're still all right.
